[Vanessa picture] The Vanessa or Painted Lady lays eggs on thistle, nettles, aster, hollyhock, pearly everlasting, pussytoes and even burdock. Borage and Cosmos are favourite nectar sources. They do not tolerate our cold Canadian winters but migrate here from the south, some years in abundance, some years quite scarce.
